A housekeeper who stole her employer’s personal items valued at N295,000 was sentenced to two-month imprisonment by an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Vivian Simeon-Michael, 20, pleaded guilty to the one-count charge brought against her by the police.
The presiding magistrate, A. T. Omoyele, did not give the convict an option of fine as “she is a first offender who must see that crime does not pay”.
The raciest part of this case is that the convict apart from other employer’s belongings stole a set of underwear.
The offence was committed on September 9 at the house of Bisi Awoniyi, at Isale Eko Way, Dolphin Estate Ikoyi, Lagos.
The police prosecutor, Cyricaus Osuji, said: “She stole a set of underwear, three sets of `buba’ and wrappers, seven pieces of pants, bracelet, 10 pieces of handkerchief and seven pieces of face towel. The others items are two pair of stockings, night wears all valued at N295, 000.The prosecutor therefore said that the offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
