Police prosecutor, inspector Essien Ndarake in the charge he filed before the court alleged that Thankgod assaulted Elighator with fist-blows at Coca-cola bus stop, Agidingbi at about 8 a.m on Monday September 14, 2015.
When the charge was read to him, Nweke first said he was guilty but when he looked at the face of his counsel, Kayode Rufus, he changed his plea to not guilty.
The defence counsel told the court that both parties had commenced a process of settlement but the complainant scuttled it. Rufus then asked for bail for his client in liberal terms.
Trial Magistrate, Mrs. E Kubeyinje admitted Nweke to bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum, who must present his tax clearance, swear to affidavit of means and his address verified by court officials.
Nweke will remain in prison custody until he could perfect these bail conditions.
Our reporter reliably gathered that an argument ensued between the two, when Elighator was driven past the bus stop she wanted to alight and the conductor allegedly battered her, a common occurrence between commuters and bus conductors in Lagos, Nigeria.
