Prehistoric Beast With 300 Teeth Caught By Fishermen

The two-metre long eel-like fish is known is a frilled shark, also known as the ‘living fossil’. Its origin dates back 80 million years and is only one of two species still alive. It is also believed to be the first time a human has seen the fish alive.

The group of fishermen who caught the dark brown creature could not have imagined that it has 300 sharp teeth over 25 rows. Simon Boag, from the South East Trawl Fishing Association (SETFA) said, “It has 300 teeth over 25 rows, so once you’re in that mouth, you’re not coming out.

Good for dentists, but it is a freaky thing. I don’t think you would want to show it to little children before they went to bed. It does look 80 million years old. It looks prehistoric, it looks like it’s from another time.”
The shark was caught at 700 metres, which is unusual because they normally are found below 1,200 metres. It is now believed the shark has been sold.
